Transport for Wales now lists a train fault at Machynlleth as the cause of delays of up to 60 minutes and possible cancellations. Its latest Wednesday evening notice extends the expected incident end to 9.30pm, with passenger disruption continuing until the end of the day. The earlier notice attributed the disruption to slippery rails and gave a 9pm estimate. The operator has changed both the listed cause and the expected incident end; the later time is not a guarantee of normal services.

Check current transport arrangements

TfW’s updated notice lists replacement buses between Machynlleth and Pwllheli and between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth. The published arrangements apply to services leaving before 8.30pm, a window that has now passed. Passengers should check the current TfW notice or ask staff for assistance before relying on an earlier bus announcement. The operator says further road transport is being sought and warns that bus journeys take longer than trains. No complete line closure or guaranteed bus seat is stated.
