Rain rescues Glamorgan: 21 for 3 chasing 302, and a draw at Sophia Gardens

The first innings at Sophia Gardens were settled by a single run. Glamorgan, 149 for 9 overnight and 13 behind, added twelve and were bowled out for 161 in 60 overs. Hampshire had made 162. On a pitch that took 17 wickets on the opening day and then lost most of day two to rain, that is as close to level as a County Championship match gets.

Hampshire then built the lead that should have won it. Toby Albert turned his overnight 17 into 64, Andrew Neal hit 47 from 20 balls late on, and the declaration came at lunch on 300 for 8, setting Glamorgan 302.

Kyle Abbott took 2 for 7 as the chase began and Glamorgan were 21 for 3. Then the weather that had already cost most of day two came back. Only 13.5 overs were possible, the match was drawn, and the sides took 11 points each.

Hampshire were left frustrated to draw from a position the visitors had controlled across days three and four, a result that keeps Hampshire in the fight to avoid the bottom two. Glamorgan stay fourth in Division One, and the point is a better afternoon's work than the scoreboard at tea suggested.
