Jonny Clayton is out of the Hungarian Darts Trophy. The Welshman lost 4-6 to Ross Smith in the last 16 at the MVM Dome on Sunday afternoon, ending the only Welsh run left in the tournament.

Clayton had reached that stage by beating the Hungarian Laszlo Kadar 6-3 in the second round on Saturday night, ending the run of a qualifier who had stunned Daryl Gurney 6-5 on Friday in front of a home crowd. Neither Gerwyn Price nor Nick Kenny made the field, so Clayton carried Wales alone.

Smith went through to the quarter-finals on an afternoon that also took out Michael van Gerwen, beaten 4-6 by Nathan Aspinall, and Josh Rock, beaten 3-6 by Chris Dobey.
