Trains between Bangor and Holyhead are running normally again following an obstruction on the track, National Rail says. Its incident notice was marked cleared at 17:48 on Wednesday 23 September.

What changed

Earlier in the afternoon, Transport for Wales said trains could not run through the affected section and was seeking replacement road transport. The current National Rail notice confirms normal running. The earlier warning of disruption until 6pm is no longer the latest position.

Check the current journey

Passengers should use the operator’s live journey information for individual departures. The bus ticket-acceptance arrangements listed in our earlier report were time-limited and should not be assumed to remain available.

Update, 23 September 2026

This report originally described the closure and TfW’s temporary travel arrangements. We have updated the headline and removed the expired diversion advice after checking National Rail’s clearance notice. Neither operator notice used for this report identifies the obstruction as an aircraft incident, so we have not asserted that connection.
